Matt Hancock 'deflecting blame' on to footballers, says Andros Townsend



The wellbeing secretary Matt Hancock is "redirecting fault" on to footballers by saying they should accept a decrease in salary during the coronavirus pandemic, as per Crystal Palace's Andros Townsend.

Hancock, some portion of an administration condemned over its reaction to the Covid-19 flare-up, stood up on the issue of Premier League players' compensation on Thursday.

He stated: "Given the penances that numerous individuals are making, remembering a portion of my partners for the NHS who have made a definitive penance of going into work and have gotten the sickness and have tragically passed on, I think the principal thing that Premier League footballers can do is make a commitment, accept a decrease in salary and have their influence."

Talks are progressing between the Professional Footballers' Association, the Premier League and the EFL over the chance of compensation slices or deferrals to help keep above water clubs who are battling monetarily. The PFA can't deferrals however is determined players should make any sort of pay penance just where there is a certified need.

Townsend said footballers were an "obvious objective" and highlighted the magnanimous work he and a portion of his companions had been engaged with since the pandemic started.

"Football is attempting to do a ton of good," the winger told TalkSport. "To wake up yesterday and see footballers being painted as miscreants was somewhat of a shock. The wellbeing secretary, avoiding fault on to footballers, I don't imagine that is correct. His activity is the duty of NHS laborers.

"NHS laborers have been come up short on for a considerable length of time. Just 2,000 of them have had the option to be tried for coronavirus. This can't, these individuals are risking their lives to attempt to spare lives.

"He is coming out and avoiding on to the obvious objectives, the footballers, and that doesn't agree with me. We do have an obligation yet we are offering back to the network and as it should be. We are in a favored position. The people group viably pay our wages. At a time like this we have to give back."
